ONEOK, Inc is one Oklahoma's leading natural gas companies, having business that extends all over the globe. The ONEOK skyscraper located in downtown Tulsa serves as their headquarters and base of operations. With all their success, they wanted to make the exterior of their building a little more pleasing to look at. They decided that they were going to create a commons area at the front of their building. It would consist of a concrete foundation, multiple garden areas, some awnings, and some heavy-duty flower containers. Adding all these things is a lot of additional weight for the ground to support; to prevent any future structural failure, Bedlam Concrete Lifting's job was to come in and stabilize all the ground that they were planning on renovating.
Bedlam Concrete lifting installed a total of 50 Galvanized HP288 Helical Piles around the building grounds. To start, all the installation points were mapped out and marked accordingly. The 8"-10" leads that were installed at each point were driven by a hydraulic-powered, rotary-torque unit. Due to the high density of everything they would be supporting, a safety factor of 2 was used to be sure nothing would yield. To arrive at the required load bearing strength, extensions were added to each lead until the proper depth was achieved that allowed a torque of 5,600 ft-lbs. New construction compression bracket caps were added to the piles after each one was driven to the desired depth. The job took about a week to complete due to the high volume of piers that needed to be placed.
